Hi...

Getting my new pontoon delivered in a couple weeks and wanted opinions on the type of cleats to get. I am getting an 18' Sylvan Pontoon that will moor to a 24' dock that will sit parallel to the shore. I believe I need to tie lines to the bow & stern, but looking at some youtube stuff - I need 2 or 3 lines on the starboard side. Looks like there boat & dock cleats, but I'm not sure which ones to buy, which size, how many? Any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks,

Lee

Re: Mooring a new pontoon

From the information you gave I think bow and stern stainless cleats on each side would be enough, that would be four. Standard deck cleats would be my choice I have docked several boats I've owned from sailboats to power boats and they never fail me. Just make sure you have your bumpers out at least two per side and allow for tide and wave movements in your ropes. I would ask other boat owners in the area about the tides and advice as far as security for your boat while you at it.
Good Luck

Thanks for the input. This is a small lake so I don't have to worry about tides, but when the wind comes from the west the waves might get a foot high. Any reason to take stainless steel cleats over iron or Aluminum?

Go stainless, one time deal.
