Hey Guys,

I own a moomba outback 2008 with the 5.7l inboard engine. Yesterday I completly lost my speedometer for at least 2 or 3 hours (always indicating 0 mph) but then it went back on at the very end of the day. I wanted to check it out but it seems like I can't find any info on the net on where is located the sensor.

Connector seems ok behind the dash and pod but following the wires to the sensor would be a little crazy so does any one have any idea on where I could look at ?

Is it on the engine, transmission, boat itself ?

Thanks for your help !!

Re: Moomba Outback 2008 speedometer

Hi Phil,

I am assuming you have a V-Drive. Pull back the moveable jump seat, open the transimission access cover and on the right side you will see a black plastic screw cap with a wire coming out the top. The cap will have an arrow that is facing forward. While the boat is on the lift, above water level, unscrew the cap and pull straight up. The unit is sealed by an O-Ring. There are tabs on either side to protect the wheel or you may have simply got debri logged in it. Be sure the arrow is facing forward when reinstalling...

Good Luck,

Daryll

I have a central engine but I spotted my speedsensor from underneath the boat. The wheel is clean and turns well.

Thanks for the tip I didnt really want to unscrew that cap but looks like it is simple, I will give a look tonight if everything goes wrong in there !!

It went back off today for about an hour !!
Tooth gear is in good shape. No stuff stuck in the sensor area. Everything still looks fine.

One thing I realized, when I hit the HORN button, speedo goes up. Pretty weird. I don't think that is a normal situation. Anybody ever heard of something similar ?
