Hi All,

I am currently looking at puchasing a bowrider in the 19 -21 ft range. The Monterey 194 is relatively new to Australia, so trying to find other owners to ask their opinion on the water is rare.

Can you guys give me your opinions on the Monetery 194 or Monterey's in comparison to the usual suspects bayliners, sea rays, mauxums etc.

Thanks

Re: Monterey quality

My neighbor has a 1995 20.5' cuddy cabin. It's had typical family use and is still in great shape (other than a couple cheap cup holders broken). The gelcoat is faded where it's red but I don't think they don't wax it. In comparison to the other boats you have listed I'd say it's at least as good as them. I like them.

Re: Monterey quality

Of the brands mentioned Monterey compares most closely with Maxum. Though generally more stylish than Maxum, with a little higher price than Maxum. More like the market level of Crownline and Four Winns. Of course with any of these value brands actual price is a key factor. If the Maxum and Monterey were the same $$ I would take the Monterey. I know some boaters look down on Maxum, so I hope this comparison is not seen as a put-down. I like both Maxum and Monterey bowriders (for their price bracket). Chaparral and Crownline are even nicer. But the Chaparral would almost certainly be higher priced than any of these. Here is another thread on the US bowrider food chain - Shopping boater hoping to get some brand recommendations

Kelly Cook

Thanks kelly & Magster,

Unfortunately Crownline & Chaparral are pretty rare here in Australia and their prices reflect that.

At the moment its going to be a tough decision between the Monterey 194 and the Sea ray sport 205

Re: Monterey quality

I like the style of the Maxum 2000 better than either of those

A couple of Monterey's on my dock. I've never been out on any of them, but they look really nice. Much nicer than the Maxums.
