I just got a free boat that is pretty much DEAD. A 1957 (?) Lone Star Caribbean "fin boat". Way cool, but ROUGH right now.

Plan is to travel it from MT to the Pacific Ocean and back. Any ideas on the best route and if there are many places to stop for fuel along the way?

Point of origin is Helena, MT.

Thanks much

Should be a fun trip. Boat weighs no more than 2,000 lbs so the flatbed should not use that much gas. Go south and pick up 80 at CHEYANNE, gas up. Then SALT LAKE, gas again. Gassing up again in RENO should get you to the coast. regards FRED. BTW, whats that white stuff on the ground? Only got up to 70 here today, bummer.

Methinks you are on the wrong side of the Continental Divide. You'd stand a better chance of making it to the Atlantic or The Gulf of Mexico. I saw that you're a teacher, please tell me you're a coach or drama teacher . . . :p

BTW, welcome aboard Jim :) Cool looking ride.

You have an interesting boat that might be worth something after a great deal of hard work. As for the fix it for under $1,000 part .... well, let's just say you're in for a bit of a shock. You might be able to make it safe for a grand, but you won't have anything close to a collectable boat that way. If there are only ten of them left, it seems a shame to not do it the right way.

It would be a cool boat if restored, It would be a shame not to do it right. But $1000 won't get too far. I have an Arima 1985 that I probably have $2000 in now. Steering, outboard parts, trailer hubs, rims/tires, trailer U bolts fasteners etc.
I am doing all work on the project. So I am talking just parts
That does not even count towards fiberglass work.

Drama! Coach!! Alright, that's good stuff.;)

Actually, I'm teaching Geography and History -- including Montana history which has a LOT to do with Lewis and Clark who traveled from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean. Here is a link to help understand their 8000 mile round trip

I want to travel via water as much as possible, perhaps entirely. May need a tug to the west side of the Continental Divide, which is about 20 minutes from my place.

Thanks for the reply -- and concern.
