I found a lot of condensation inside my cap. Been raining a lot lately too, just wodering what if anyone knows would be the effects of a lot of moisture in the cap. 1986 Volvo Penta 225e V8.
Would this cause an engine to start popping. Jeeeez????

--------------------------------------------------
and thanks in advance,
hopeful 86bayliner

High voltage will jump to ground through the path of least resistance. If the inside of your cap has moisture, the spark will jump all over the place instead of taking the correct path. Your engine cannot run right if the correct cylinder is not getting spark at the correct time. Replace the cap and take her for a spin.

Re: moisture or condensation inside distributorcap

Is there a way to keep the moisture out? After about 30 minutes of googling i found something like that. Im hoping, after i try and get another cap for it that it will work? But If theres condensation in the cap, There has to be Water or moisture further down the distributor? Is that bad , I will pray it will not be too bad, Let you know tommorow what happens after i dry out the cap.

-----------------------------------------------------
Thanks,
hopeful 86bayliner

A good quality MARINE cap will include a small 90 degree brass elbow to allow the air to circulate thru the cap. Also, with the vent tube if any moisture does accumulate in the cap, the normal heat of the engine will allow it to "bake" out.

Yes, I had this happen on my 1984 Chapparal. It will not run right. Replace with a proper marine cap and all will be fine.

There is a spray to coat the inside of the cap called wire drier but what you should concentrate on is preventing rain water from dripping down on the cap. That is usually how the condensation starts.I had the same problem with a Sea Ray I owned years ago and had to replace the screens in my camper top to plastic and Voila !! Problem solved.Charlie
