Hi, I have a Yamaha 55hp 2 cylinder 2 stroke outboard. Its dark blue in colour and the cowl is white red and blue. The serial and model No plate is very corroded to the point it can not be read. I know I should have made a note of it a year or so ago. My local dealer says without these numbers he can not look up parts for me and that the motor is scrap. Is this true? Fellow boaters be warned! Can some body give me a clone Number.
Help splasher splash.

Re: model / serial No

G'Day. As I was born in Andover I will have to try and help you out, even if I am an Aussie now, (Have you checked out the medal count in the comm games).
To business. Yor yam was built in the early 80's. there may be a serial number stamped on an aluminium plate attached to the cylinder block. I would suggest that you find a new boat mechanic. there must be heaps down in the Southampton area, It would'nt be that difficult to identify it. Parts are still available(At least they are here dowm under)certainly dont junk it.
If you still have a problem finding details then post another request .

thanks whaley , what the heck are you doing up so early? the number you mention on the side of the block (core plug)seems to be on every yam except 55hp mondels. Ive worked out that yamaha only made twin 55's from 89 to 1996. I bet you don't miss Andover.
