Re: Model outboard motors.

Ryan T, I don't know about them, but I would ask the seller since it says it does run. He has had to had it hooked up to a battery source of some kind to be able to state that.

Re: Model outboard motors.

Thank you for the reply.

I emailed the seller last night and just got the reply. He seems to know about at much as I do,(nothing) it will run off any battery with a red/blue turminal. I ran it last night off my boat battery, the thing is really powerfull, but I shut it down because I thinked needs to be greased or something, if had that burning smell to it afterward. I''m gonna try to find a site about them there must be one out there........

11

Ryan,

I hope you mean "toy boat battery" and not a 12V boat battery.

No wonder it was running fast and started smelling :( It probably would have fried if you left it on much longer.

Theres more than just a little difference in the electrical current between a 9V hobby battery and a 12V Car/Boat battery

Good luck.

Marty

Re: Model outboard motors.

Um, it kindof was a full size car/boat battery.

I messed it up, but I think I can fix it. I ran the little thing so fast that I somehow brock whatever turns the prop. If I can find how to open it up I could melt the plastic together to fix it [I think]

Bear,
Thank you for the links, I'm gonna check them out now,

11

Ryan, your just kidding about the car battery right? Please tell me you are?! If so, I would be quite suprised if it didn't explode or melt....
i hate to say it, but i think you just burnt up your little scaled down yamaha motor. maybe not

remember- you cannot, absolutely CANNOT, mix voltages with electric motors- unless you know in advance that they have done such voltage/amperage before... sorry

look at it this way- you're only out a dinner with friends...

What I can't believe is that the guy that sold you this did not know what kind of battery to use after stating that it runs.
If he had it hooked up to a "car battery", he may have fried it some already for ya, before you got it.

Yup,
No joke,
I ran up off a full sized boat/cart battery. I did not fry it up, but I did break that plastic drive shaft that turns the prop, What I will do is melt some more plastic and fix it. I've got nothing to lose now.

11
