Do the model numbers and/or serial numbers on Johnson outboard motors provide information that will identify the motor as being long shaft or short shaft? If so, where would I run the numbers to check?

It would help if you would identify the engine and state the model number so that we might help you with that.

The Model number on a Johnson should tell you the details of motor--i.e. long shaft, electric start, tiller handle.....

Post the serial and model numbers and we can help you out more!

The Model # will tell you what it was built as... However some short shafts have conversion kits to add 5", some manual starts can have electric starting added

Sometimes BRP can use the Serial # to get the info, but not always
