ok why would he run it at 44 or 42 to 1 just trying to figure this out could that be to burn less or something like that or don't worry about what he did and just run it at 50 to 1 ?

He was simply being cautious and possibly didn't trust OMC's engineers. People can be strange ya'know.

42-44 is about what you get when you can't measure 2.6 ounces and use 3 instead... Really, I'm serious... some dealers just tell folks to mix 3 oz per gal. Your seller probably didn't really know it was supposed to be 50:1. Fact is, you could run it a 25:1 and it wouldn't hurt it, might smoke a little more but it won't hurt a danged thing. Going the other way is what you don't want to do for a prolonged period but if you ran short on oil you could run at 80:1 or ever 100:1 and as long as you didn't load the engine you'd be fine until you could get more oil.

Re: Mix

2.6 oz per gal is 50:1 - 50:1 is what the manufacturer recommends but if you go by the side of the bottle rather than a measuring cup you'll probably be closer to 3 and that's fine. It's not going to hurt anything or cause your engine to run poorly.

Re: Mix

That's why oil comes in pint or quart bottles. One pint to 6 gallons of gas, one quart to 12 gallons. You weren't really going to just do one gallon at a time, were you?

Mixing oil to gas was about the only advantage of going metric in Canada, well for a 62 year old guy who grew up on the Imperial British system.

You'll have to ask him. Now that you know what the proper mixture is, there's nothing I could add to that.
