I had to take a business trip and I crossed the Missouri River and sort of expected to see flooding. Well, I did. The water was standing at least two miles on both sides of the river. What I was not prepared for was the stench. With the car windows up and the AC running the smell was still bad enough to make a guy want to lose his lunch. I feel for the folks living in the area. If and when the water goes back down the clean up is going to be massive.

Re: Missouri River , the flooding and the SMELL

i believe that. i do the missouri too. not lately though for obvious reasons. but heck. i know omaha has a certain percentage of raw sewage that it can introduce into the missouri. after the flooding. i think they may have even raised the percentage.
when i've come off the river in the past. i have this horrible bathtub ring around my boat. it's usually literally oily feeling. it don't just wash off. it smears prior to washing off. pretty bad...
so imho, there's at least some petroleum products and most certainly raw sewage from omaha. i bet other large citys along the way do the same thing. further south ya get, i'd think the worse it'd be...

terrible things we do to our natural resources isn't it..
