In case you didn’t know effective January 1, 2008, the Missouri Renewable Fuel Standard became effective. Under this standard, all gasoline offered for sale in Missouri must contain 10% ethanol (there are some exceptions). The problem is, this is NOT limited to Missouri. The Federal government is forcing the use of ethanol upon us!
I've got a little 'rant' posted on my web site, please check it out, and let me know what you think.
Please coply the following and paste it in to your web browser address bar.

What was this posted 20 years ago or something? Gas has had 10% ethanol in it for DECADES! Get over it or move to a third world country.

NO this wasn't posted 20-years ago, look at the date...
The point of the rant in case you missed it, is that it is being REQUIRED. Also, if you haven't noticed, it HAS had a direct effect on the cost of other goods.
Finally, the real point is why are we WASTING valuable resources from industries previously listed and allowing this kind of crap to happen?
AS far as moving to a third world country-- there's no need to move.... the good 'ol USA is turning in to one.
Sorry the rant wasn't a little more clear for you.

MN has mandated 10% ethanol for years. We have had no problmes with it in any of our vehicles including my 1973 boat. Very old 2 cycle outboards may have a problem whit it though. And, the resources are not being taken from anything else. Which would you rather do. Give the money to American Farmers or middle eastern unstable governments?

Actually, I want to take the resources from the middle eastern, unstable governments now because they will get the money anyway, and I would rather use up their resources first. Being a major buyer of their product also gives us a great deal of ability to influence what they do. That said, I am a supporter of alternative energy sources because failure to develop them now has some pretty dire consequences.

As eluded to on my web site, that shouldn't even be the choice... Corn is being used for fuel and it has SO many other uses. Now that the use of ethanol is being MANDATED, the government is in effect CAUSING rising prices on other products while at the same time WASTING resources from certain industries that have the ability to produce energy. Nobody is pursuing a way to efficiently harness THAT energy, WHY?

I don't see why this is so difficult to understand... We need to get off our couches and get hold of our representatives and let them know that we DEMAND they pursue alternative energy sources from things that we HAVE to get rid of anyway instead of using an already valuable resource... SIMPLE!

Be careful folks. The very FIRST rule in the iboats posting rules/ guidelines is:

The Admin and Moderator Team have decided to firmly enforce our policy regarding inflammatory posts and bashing or flaming anyone. This is not a new policy or rule, it is just a tightening of the existing rules. We think we have been just too permissive recently. Also, we will firmly enforce our rule against subject matter and language not suitable, in our judgement, for family viewing.

Posts on controversial topics such as politics, social controversy and religion have proven to be inflammatory and will no longer be allowed. When registering with iboats, you agree not to post any obscene, abusive, slanderous, hateful, sexual-oriented, offending, vulgar or threatening material.

This should produce the friendly, family oriented style our owners insist on. We can be the coaches or the cops. We much prefer being coaches.

Thank you all for your cooperation.:)

Not in this country! I've lived in the SE all my life and haven't used ethanol since the demise of Gulftane (one blend from one supplier). A little more research might be in order before telling someone to lump it or get out ...

It's pretty common in the midwest, I actually don't remember when you could buy gas without some ethanol in it but I'm probably pretty young compared to most of the people that post on here. It's not all bad though, it's a great fuel system cleaner, it helps reduce emissions and it gives money to farmers. Theres a great debate in the non-repair outboard section above about ethanol and the future with people from all angles. If I had a car that could burn E85 I probably would but I don't nor do I have a problem with E10, my outboard has no problems with it.
