I have a ns40d2 nissan 40hp outboard
When accelerating it does not accelerate until you move the control lever far forward and when it does accelerate it does so very hard all at once. At full throttle the rpms pulse up and down slightly. I have clean fuel system since I have cleaned it recently.

Please help
Thanks

Re: MississippiMud

If that's a remote control check choke is working properly, that is not sticking, butterfly must turn freeely. Is throttle cable sliding smooth inside its cover. How about prop, spun hub issues.

Yep. Verify that the RC cabling is in good shape and properly adjusted. See your Factory service manual, owner's manual, and parts catalogs, for the RC box and motor.

Throttle and shift cables are new
I have the throtle cable adjusted to a very low idle. The carbs are clean but I haven't watched them while someone else chokes it. Ill look at it to see if it may be sticking. The choke seemes to be working properly. While the motor is idling irregularly it improves if I push in the choke once or twice. It seems to be starving for gas.

Re: MississippiMud

When pulling choke butterfy or butterflies as when starting a cold engine, when pushing choke back in sometimes butterflies could remain closed or nearly closed when they should spring back to complete open position.

If wanting free trouble operation, must keep all butterflies shafts immaculate clean and well lubed. Spray choke cleaner on both sides of each butterfly's shaft while manually pivoting butterfly back and forth for spray to penetrate, repeat untill sticky issues has completely gone. Add small oil droplets at both sides of butterfly's shaft to maintain them excellent lubed and in good working order.

You have trouble. You don't adjust the cable for idle. Get your Factory service manual and set it up. But first, do a proper carb cleaning, as you should not need to add choke to make it run right.
