I have a ns40d2 nissan 40hp outboard which is new to me. It is supposed to be a 1989 model??? At idle it does not pump water from the water pump discharge but smoke comes out instead. You have to accelerate to get a stream which feels fairly cool. If you are at low throttle it gives a weak stream that is very hot.

Is this normal or do I have a problem
