I HAVE A 1977 55HP EVINRUDE OUTBOARD. WE HAD CARB WORK DONE ON IT LAST SUMMER BY SOME SHADE TREE MECHANIC...JUST TO SAY THAT THE PROBLEM WASN'T FIXED.IN MY BOTTOM CARB IM MISSING THE SCREW THAT GOES IN THE SIDE OF THE FLOAT BOWL, THE TOP ONE HAS IT. WHEN I THROTTLE UP FROM LOW TO HIGH IT STARTS TO STUTTER AND SPIT AND SPURT. IS THIS MISSING SCREW THE PROB? SURE HOPE SO.

Re: MISSING SCREW

you should probably rebuild both carbs to take the guess work out. no telling what may be ammiss within. Not too difficult a job to do yourself if you choose and follow instructions as per manual.if you choose to have reputable dealer perform the work it's not that costly.Probably charge about two hours.

Re: MISSING SCREW

If it is the screw that I am thinking of it is the floatbowl drain screw. If that sounds and looks about right DO NOT run this engine again or you may do serious damage.Do you have a big rainbow slick behind you in the water?Pump forever on the bulb then give up?Can you pull the same screw out of the other carbs then see fuel dribbleing out?If so be carefull.
