missing exhaust flapper/shudder??????

1999 Chaparral 290 Signature
Mercruiser 5.0L with Alpha One Gen 2 Drives

Pulled the risers and noted a broken flapper on one side. Pulled the drive and did not find the broken piece in the exhaust bellow or y-pipe. Split the drive and still no broken piece. Got one of those inspection scopes with a light on it and looking up and down in the exhaust Y-pipe manifolds -no piece of the flapper found!!

WHERE DID IT GO??? Should I be concerned after doing all of this????

I had to pay to have the boat hauled out I would like to be sure before putting it back into service.

how old is the boat? what make engine? if volvo flappers are no longer made as volvo calls for them to be removed.
