Missing bellcrank assembly!? HELP Needed!

Hey fellas,

I have a rather strange question. As I was changing my gear lube, spark plugs and doing some regular tune up, I noticed that my "Rich & Lean" adjuster is not attached to anything. Took a quick look in the manual and it seems that I am missing the whole "Bellcrank Assembly" that fits on the air silencer plate. Manual doesn't mention much more about this.

Motor is : 1971 Evinrude 100HP Starflite

Can someone knowledgeable tell me if this is fine, or if I need to acquire a new part. And exactly what it the bellcrank used for? Im leaving a basic diagram that might help you guys, and see what exactly I am talking about :)

You can find a replacement at just about any of the salvage yards and dealers found in the top secret file. That of course is the very top thread on this forum. These places will sell either new or used parts. It's not absolutely needed to make your motor run, but it does simplify a simple carb adjustment.

Thank you very much for the info, I will try to run the motor without it until I have found a replacement.

Cheers!

Back in the old days I made sure the idle screws had the right packing on them so they wouldn't move and threw the bell cranks away. Then you just adjust each cyl seperately which you should do anyway.

The suggestion that boobie made is they way we used to do it also. Adjust each carb separately and then throw the belcrank assy away.

Thanks guys, got it running without the belcrank and the motor sounds great. Will look further into adjusting it myself.
