Miramar - Cat Report - July 20 - San Diego

Nice morning on the water... launched at 530-6ish to a overcast lake Miramar. Set up shop on a bank, and realized we hit a school of cats or something.... by 9-10 am we had around 15 cats boated and numerous bites/runs. My friend and I had double-hook-ups, and I had another double hook-up. Largest was around 6ish, many 4's and 2-3 # cats, very good fighters. Water is WARM and the fish are active. Kept a few for the freezer.

Nice catch. Always good to get into a pile of fish. Are the cats spawning right now? It looks like a couple of those are bursting with eggs??

That's what I was thinking flathead. Around here they spawn in late June on rip rap bank. They're a blast with shallow diving crankbait, felt like a 5lbs bass taking your crankbait everytime.

Possibly spawning, I try and throw back the ones that look prego. Water was warmer then the air, catfish start to spawn in summer when water is over 70. I like the idea of catching cats with lures, haven't done it yet.
