Minnow Trap Bait

What is the best bait in a minnow trap? Someone said break styrofoam into little pieces but I don't want to even consider putting that stuff in the lake.

bread is what i have always heard of people using in minnow traps.

Corn meal rolled into little balls. I have heard about using dry dog food also.

Just empty the can into the trap, or pop the top off and set the can in?

I have tried dog food but after a few hours it's gone.

I use bread cause its something that I always have. I just take one slice and break it up and put it in the trap.

I've always liked oatmeal rolled into balls. Make it somewhat on the dry side. Mostly it'll stay in the trap, but some of it will float away as chum and it attracts 'em like crazy.

(Of course this is more work than bread, but IMHO it's a lot better).

I trap lots of bait in those cone shaped traps. My favorite bait... dry dog food. slowly dissolves and leaves a scent trail.

saltine crackers or oyster crackers work well also.

I've always used bread in the cone style cylinder traps and it's worked pretty well.

Also if you leave bread in it overnight and leave it outside you can catch random terestrial animals like mice, etc. Good for pike bait

i have always used the bread.. and something to help it stay in is to put it in those little ankle pantyhose you get for cheep plus it give you something to hang it by .. i use a small s hook on the top of mine in the middle .. just my .02
