Whoa back. The foot pedal is supposed to have a cable about 15 feet long on it with the proper connector to mate with the connector on the trolling motor. There is a larger gauge two wire cable that connects to the battery. You don't need a connector on those two wires unless you want to remove the motor (using a quick release bracket). Otherwise any two pin trolling motor plug and receptacle can be used. The positive battery cable has a red stripe on it. The other is ground. Connect those two to the battery. Plug in the foot pedal to the trolling motor and go. If your foot pedal doesn't have a cable or plug on it, you bought a bad piece of gear. Later I'll post a couple of pictures of what it's supposed to look like.

The first picture below is what your foot pedal should look like. If it doesn't have the cable you have a junk pedal. If it has the cable but no plug on the end, you need to buy another junk pedal, cut the cable off and splice it into yours. You cannot replace just the connector as its molded onto the cable.

The next picutre shows how the foot pedal connects to the motor.

The next picture shows the power plug. You can wire directly to the battery using ring termnals or you can add a two pin trolling motor connector. Add the mating receptacle to your boat and the wires from the receptacle go to the battery.

I have a PD40 also and after a few uses I found the foot control very inconvenient. I am using it on a 12' Jon and don't stand up most of the time. I bought the wireless remote and love it. The foot pedal is not needed when using the wireless remote and can be left at home. Remote mounts on the poles I use and control is a breeze!
