I just received a new max 55 motor. Haven't put it in the eater yet but it powers up OK and the propeller turns. My question is: has anyone with this series motor had issues with the battery meter on the top of the head unit? When I push the button to show battery level, I don't get any indication on a fully charged deep cycle battery. It's Sunday so can't reach Minn Kota until Monday. Should I be able to see the LED indicators on a Sunny day? It's overcast today but can't see any indicators illuminate. I took the top of the head cover off and the wires are connected to the small circuit board with the LED's on it. I think maybe the circuit board my be bad.

Re: Minn kota max 55, battery meter doesn't work

I talked to Minn Kota service on Monday and they agreed with me that the battery power circuit board is probably bad and will be sending me a new board.

Also as an FYI, I took my old 1972 Sears 12ft heavy Aluminum boat out with the Max55 for the first time on Sunday. The boat is very heavy, two people can barely lift it. Had my fishing gear, wife, deep cycle battery. Oars, anchor. Probably all told an additional 450lbs over the boat weight. Granted it was fairly calm on the lake. Full throttle, my Lowrance fish finder/GPS indicated I was at 4.1 MPH. I had sold a 3.5 HP outboard an replaced it with the Max55. Not a barn burner but I am satisfied with the motor. Seemed to be real good on the battery usage also.
