minn kota 565 foot control

My foot control pedal on the minn kota 565 has a new mind of it's own. The directional cue will not stop unless I hit the power pedal. Now the directional won't work at all. The power still works but I have to horse the motor in the direction I want by grabbing it on the head and twisting it.
Can I get a new foot control or is this a wiring issue that can be repa:'(ired?

Probably a foot control issue. If the unit is routinely left exposed to moisture, they can develop problems. Check E-bay or contact MinnKota.

Have you dismantled the control to see if something is broken loose?

I agree with JB, if you open it up, you may find that the fix required is right before your eyes and easy to do, and think of all the money you would have saved.....I have many times opened up something that wasn't working to find a small repair nedded and it was back to as-good-as-new!

Thanks for your thoughts, nothing under the hood, could be the compass. I did get the constant power switch to work by cleaning off the keyboard under the pedal.

I read an article recently where some people have had to replace the foot control as many as three times in two years. They are very dissappointed with the Minn Kota brand. So I would advise you to get ready to spend at least $65.00 or more whenever the foot controls decides it's had enough.

How did things work out with your 565. The reason I ask is I am looking for one as a donor if you have replaced yours.

I have already replaced the broken prop on mine with a aluminum one but I also need to locate a steering cable caseing. Minnkota is not making replacements anymore and neither is the aftermarket. The one I need is for the single steering cable.
