mini sailboat, need rudder(im a powerboater and know NOTHING bout sail!!!!) help

hello, we were just given a saml 12 foot mini sailer i guess thats what you cal it...<br /><br />about 3 feet wide, 12 long, about 10 inches deep, styrofoam with a hard plastic sheel...<br /><br />we need to make our own rudder and havent a clue where to start... anybody have a pattern or explain to me how to do this. <br /><br />i can rebuild an outboard, but this is new to me

Sounds like a Sea Snark. <br /><br />You will also need a tiller & a way to hang it off the hull. Usually gudgeons & pintles. The gudgeons or pintles should be on hull already. <br /><br />Unless you can find a picture or diagram to scale off the rudder size, I would wing it.<br />Maybe 8" to 12" wide by 16 to 24" deep.<br />Don't make it any deeper than the daggerboard.<br /><br />Often boats like that have a kickup rudder so you can beach it easily. With a boat that small it may be just as easy to take it off when required and much easier to build.<br /> <br />Little boats like that can be lots of fun. Even if your first rudder isn't perfect, you'll figure out what it needs & it shouldn't be that hard to build.

You could look on eBay for a small rudder. Probably something off a pram would work.
