Craigslist 191.jpgWanting some advice on my next step. I am sure someone will tell me to take it to the mechanic but I like to learn as much as possible.

I have been noticing some milky colored substance coming from just above the midsection from a seal. It runs fine but have noticed it before and now there is a lot more leaking and sitting on the anti-ventalation plate. The engine is a 2009 6hp Tohatsu and has fairly low hours. I assume there is water in the lower unit oil and was wondering the next step.

Do I change the lower unit oil and monitor or is there anything else I should be looking out for. Thanks in advance.

Have pics just not sure how to post them...

Re: Milky Oil? How to diagnose the problem.

That area is the motor mount/swivel section, and has nothing to do with the LU lube. There is typically some grease there. Yours may have some emulsification. You can add a pump of grease to the zerk fittings, which may push out the milky stuff, but it's likely no big deal even as is. There isn't any "seal" there.

The crankcase oil and LU lube should be changed after the first 10-20 hours, and then every 50 hours, or at least get an annual change.

Awesome. Thanks for your help. I was getting ready to change the lower unit oil anyways but this takes a little stress out of it for me.
