Hi there. I recently bought an old Honda BF100 outboard. The first thing I did was replace the water pump impeller. I then rebuilt the carb, changed plugs, and replaced the prop. I changed the oil because it was really black. When I run the engine in a water tank for about 15 minutes, the oil becomes contaminated with water. This outboard was in storage for about 5 years. It now starts and runs fine. Both cylinders are within spec for compression, and they are within 5 psi of each other. A leakdown test reveals 20% leakage past the rings on both cylinders. Normal for such an old engine. What could cause water to get into the crankcase? Could the block be cracked? Could it be the headgasket? The funny thing is, the oil that was in the engine when I got it was black. So obviously when the motor was put away, water wasn't leaking into the engine. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
