I was just reading up on winterizing my 85HP Force O/B. In one of the threads a guy said a Clymers Manual has lots of good information & everyone should have one on hand. I went to the web site to order one & looked over the model's included in the manual I'm getting & it covers quite a few, & it has my engine listed: 1985 85HP Force O/B with all the others & right below it is listed:1985 85HP Force O/B L-Drive. What does L-Drive mean? I know it's a different model, but how so? Does it look different? Is it better/worse than a non L-Drive? How can I tell what I have? I've read a lot of threads on iboats & have come across it mentioned several times, but now I'm just curious on what it's all about. Might be super simple to boat people, but I guess everyone starts somewhere. Thank You for the explanation.

An L-drive was a weird concoction Bayliner/Maxum tried for a few years which was a Force powerhead on some sort of odd I/O type leg. If you had one, you'd know it.

As far as I know they weren't really too great and parts/service for the drives are non-existent.

The motor runs good. The drive operated pretty good too. It was just not a good seller and the parts and service are impossible.
I was trained on them but won't touch em.J
