Mid-80's Evinrude 25hp tiller, no start

Im told it is a 84 25 horse, cannot find model #. Both plug wires provide spark, comp. check yielded 35 psi in top cyl and 60 in bottom. Engine will not fire, only popps out exhaust occasionally. Have an idea what to do but could use some expertise on this one.

If the compression is 35 on top and 60 on the bottom then I believe that you have solved your problem. These engines are supposed to have about 120-150 psi per cylinder and the compression is not to vary by more than 15%. I dont believe that gasoline will ignite at 35 psi. If it did, it wouldnt provide enough power to run the engine.

sounds like it needs rings. It could be out of time, check the manual for ignition timing
