Just sold a mid 80's Evinrude 140. Was running ok in the tank before I sold it. Compreshion on all cylinders good. Guy who bought it just rang and said the motor was cutting out and hard to restart under full load. He seems to think it might be fuel related. any thoughts

Hi MD...how's things down under?

Ya might wanna check the way the guys has the engine set up. Make sure he knows "how" to start it.

Check his fuel connections and make sure the primer bulb pumps up snug.

Cutting out under load sounds more ignition than fuel. Do a spark test and make sure all cylinders jump a 7/16 gap with a hot blue/white spark.

Have any idea when the last time the carbs were overhauled?

Keep us posted to what ya' find....thanks.

Did your customer describe the cutting out? Engine slows down and dies or does it just quite altogether.

Slows down and dies = Fuel
Dies quickly 4 point siezure and will not turn over.
Dies imediately ign.

TMD

Hi everyone, thanks for the advice. Motor runs well under idol in the test tank. When you place under load (mid to higher)seems to gradually die. Then hard to start. I'll get some more info in the coming days from the client. (seems to me to be fuel related)
