I just purchased a Mercury 500 50 hp Mid 70's is about all I can tell you at this time I dropped it off at the shop. A local guy. I can turn the motor over with the starter and the key with jumper cables but I did the spark (fire) test with a screwdriver in the plug wire arcing to a ground, and no fire on any wire. Can anyone help this Motor Virgin. LOL Just don't wanna get ripped off by the repair guy.

Hi James

I see you have another post about this - please don't double/multiple post. Someone will help you soon.

I have a mid 70's 500 but I'm not an electrics guru. Start by listing your serial number (from the transom bracket plate). This will allow others to find your exact year and electrical configuration. I believe yours will be a distributor and one coil model but we need to confirm this first. :)

Sorry about the multiple post, I am sure it has a multiple coil though. It' might be newer than I think. I will follow up before posting further thanks
