A few quick questions, I am not familiar with merc's.. I am workin on a old 4 hp mercury with the thunderbolt igntion.. When I twist the handle to where the stop position would be it just low speed idles, the only way to shut the motor down is to choke it. Does anyone know any secrets regarding this, or what I can look for, I work on OMC products not famililar with the good ol mercs.. Thanks alot for your help.

Allan

Hi Allan,
I beleive the Thunderbolt ignition motors had a kill button somewhere on the lower belly pan. Might have been disconnected/discarded when the rubber boot rotted out?? Look for a nylon wire block on the powerhead somewhere that the wires would have gone to. Might be able to hook up a new switch (modern style with your choice of tether, button, etc.)
- Scott
