Mice ate the wiring harness

I found a mouse nest in my 1985 20hp Evinrude and they chewed on some part of a 4 wire harness that connects to a rubber plug fitting with a retainer clip on it. I taped the wires up individually and the motor runs OK. I think they were getting in the air intake so I added a 1/4 inch metal screen cap to the intake hole and retained it with a spring. Anyone have any ideas if taping these wires is OK and how to keep mice out of the engine?

Re: Mice ate the wiring harness

I had a mice issue also I bought the little seeds that make the mice dehigderate so one ate them died in the back of the motor ,the smell of death has kept them out for years shop vac cleans it up nicely after storrage, soldered and taped is the best but if it's running you must have done it ok 'first place to look if any problems arise
