A buddy of mine is looking at buying a PWC and I told him I would ask around to see how out of date my infomation is. I sold my pair of SeaDoos back in '98. I liked the hull design of the SeaDoos because you could cut the wheel and spin them out. The Yamahas acted more like a boat and would just power through the turn. On the other hand, everyone I knew with a SeaDoo had theirs in the shop as much as they did in the water whereas the Yamis pretty much ran and ran with only normal maintenance. That's why most of the tourist rental shops run Yamis.

Are the hull designs on the SeaDoos and Yamis similar to the way they were 10 years ago with similar handling characteristics?

Are the four stroke SeaDoos any more reliable than the two strokes were and do they compare at all to the reliability of the Yamis?

Re: Mfg Comparisons

Used to ride them all the time. I can go and rent both and try them out, or more to the point, my friend who is in the market to buy can, but that still won't tell us whether the dependability of the SeaDoos is better than before.

That's why I asked for some people who had some more experience with them than I do to give some opinions.

Re: Mfg Comparisons

I have both 2 stroke and 4 stroke sea doo skies, the 4 stroke is pretty reliable if you don't get the super charged model and it runs on regular gas, the sc mod requires premium. the ski I have gets 6 miles per gallon running around 45 mph less if you ride it real hard at w o t, but not that much less maybe looses 1 mpg.
the hulls are strong and usually have opas steering, obviously owning cobra jet steering I have eliminated that and installed my own steering , my ski will out handle any stock ski out there and I run it 3 days a week. so it gets a lot of hours on it.
I would say the gti 4 stroke would be one he should look at. that hull is pretty nimble,, I have the gtx limited and it's a bigger heavier hull than the gti
