I have a 350 with vortec heads, clean quadrajet and edelbrock aluminum intake. Everything else is pretty much to stock spec.
As soon as I hit 4000 rpm it starts to go lean.
It pops pretty good, spark plugs look pretty good since I stay around 2500-3000 rpm anyways.
The rods that are in it now are CM rods.
I have the airdoor spring wound about as tight as I want to.

What rods should I go with?

Thanks.

if there is too much spring pressure on the secondary plates they won't open and when they don't open they don't lift up your metering rods and guess what no gas to the secondary and when you throdle up far enough those bottom plates open mechanically and if there is too much spring pressure holding the top plates closed the metering rods are not opened and no gas to the secondarys. when you make the adjustment there should be only a small amount of pressure on your finger to open those plates and remember the vacumn from the motor opens those plates which lifts your metering rods to give gas to the secondarys. I see what you are saying. I have tried from almost none to quite a bit of pressure.
But I will give it another try.

I have a 26' wellcraft with twin 260's and on the carbs I disconected the vacumn that that controls the secondary upper plates from opening and also took off the bar going to the plates (its the lever at the adjustment spring tension screw) I can feel and hear my secondarys kick in at 4200. I have built rochesters for years. Are you sure your secondars are opening? A possibility is maybe that vac control is not allowing those plates to open? I would make sure those plates are opening first and as I said if those plates don't open you don't get gas to the secondarys
