metal pitting

I just had a lower unit put on 1 year ago. The boat stays in water (fresh water )for 3 months at a time. I am noticing that on the lower unit some pitting in the metal has began occuring. On my old unit I did not have this problem. Do you have any suggestions on what can be done to prevent this from happening?

be sure that you have you zinc electrodes installed. (trim tab on some) maybe they weren't installed when the LU was swapped...
