Messed up my laptop

I periodically go through and delete the junk off my Dell e6500, Windows 10 with all the current updates. 64 bit, 8gb RAM and 500mb hard drive. It's old, but works okay. Sorta like an old truck.

I'm posting this with my phone. Ugh.

Anyway, this morning we had the cable/internet tech come out and fix our slow internet. He did and now it's blazing fast.

I did my usual cache, history and whatnot. It helped a little, but didn't really make much difference.

Next, I deleted my temp folder. That may have been the issue. It started deleting and said there were nearly 11,000 items (it's been awhile) and ran for 20 minutes with the status saying only 5 seconds left. I finally just exited it, then rebooted.

And the computer has been dead slow ever since.

While typing this, I realized that I just had a Windows update yesterday. Maybe I should uninstall that?

Any thoughts?

Windows 10 will no longer be supported by microsoft unless you are willing to pay a monthly fee. It is time to get a new computer

Yeah, I've been planning on doing that before the Oct 25th Win 10 cutoff date.

Funding for a new computer isn't available at the moment though.

My three Win 10 puters (all Dell) are doing just fine and no issues
I think what you did was exiting in the middle messed something up. Might try the to use the Dell optimizer and see if it helps

If mine ever starts to go slow bring up task manager and look at what is eating up all the memory/processor. Might have something running in the background

I did check task Mgr, but nothing really stood out. The problem seems to be internet related. My other applications, including video editing software, are working normally.

About an hour ago I started a system restore back to 15Jan25 and it's still working on that.

I'll check on the Dell Optimizer if the restore doesn't work.

Run disk cleanup and check the “clean up system files” box down below.

It may take a while but be patient.

Cleaning up your connection issue isnt helping. Just clogging up your system quicker

^^real good idea
I wouldn't worry about deleting the Temp file. Temp is just like a place to store things it may need again, so takes less time to retrieve. The puter will increase/decrease as needed

I'm in real trouble now. During the restore, it stopped and said there is a problem with the device, so it ran repair... then said it can't be repaired. I'm going round and round with it and can't get anywhere. Definitely in trouble.

Here's where I am. Again.

Second system restore using a different restore point didn't work either.

I'm doing a PC Reset now. It's the last resort before a big hammer and a new computer.

The computer is very busy in the background doing stuff. I'll leave it alone for awhile until it's done.

The PC reset obviously removed all of the programs and other stuff I installed. Some of those I paid for. I'm not exactly sure what I'll do about that. The video editing software was pricey.

Sad news, everyone. My computer is still really, really slow getting onto the internet.

The problem wasn't fixed. Still investigating.

I previously used Google Chrome as my browser, but I tried accessing a few websites with Edge and it's just as slow as it was when I used Chrome before. Not good.
