JB do you an answer for the following:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to all of you who replied to me yesterday with my oil pump problem, since I am fighting with this problem for the last 5 years well I will do like some of you suggest to me >>> I will get rid of the oil pump and use a premix fuel. But with that I have a second question, can I only remove the pump and plug back the fuel line at the filter, is this pump only for oil or it is pumping fuel also -- my engine is mounted with carbs.
Thanks again
Mario

kev_79
Member
Posts: 45
From:conway, AR, USA
Registered: Aug 2001
posted August 07, 2001 03:06 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On evenrude's, the oil is in a seperate tank, and you have a primer bulb. I think that all you should do is premix the fuel, and plug the oil line, but I am more of a Merc man. JB or fone_man should have a better insight on this. You should also disable the waring buzzer for low oil level, unless you just like that type of noise when you are running. Hope this get's you started. GL

I

Re: Message for J.B. Cornwell

Sorry, Kev and Mario. I haven't actually had hands-on a 25 that new and don't have the manual for it, so I hesitate to assume.

I would first investigate replacing the pump with one intended to use premix; it would have no connections for oil. If you are lucky, a pump for an older 25 would just bolt on in place of the mixer pump.

If the pump is the same as the VRO pumps of the 80s you could simply disconnect and plug the oil inlet, disconnect the low-oil warning sensor wire and, if it has one, the no-oil warning sensor on the pump.

I would expect your dealer, the one who keeps replacing power heads and not fixing the cause of your problems, to be very happy to assist you in disabling or replacing the mixer pump with a premix pump.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Red sky at night. . .
JB

I have look at the parts book until my eyes hurt, but here goes. This thing has 2 fuel pumps to have enough pressure to work the mixer. The mixer/oil pump has only 2 hoses RIGHT? IF so, go from fuel filter to carbuator fuel manifold this should bypass the mixer/oil pump, mix 50/1 in fuel tank. If engine gets fuel it will get oil. Concerns are is mixer/oil pump connected to block with hose. Fuel line size to fuel tank, and if plastic tank size of pickup tube.
