Hi all, new to the forum and fairly new to outboards. Anything I’ve worked on was much older with carbs. Just bought the boat a 96 nitro fishing boat. Has said motor on it. I’m fairly certain the water pump is bad, as it doesn’t “pee” even after the cylinders feel very warm. Water pump isn’t a big deal to fix tho. But I’ve read about thermostats that may need cleaned? As for the no start...it will start for a short time and run very poorly then die. The longer I try and the motor warms the worse it gets. Dies immediately when put in gear. What is fuel press supposed to be at? I get under 40 psi and it takes awhile to get there. When the key is turned on it sounds like the pump is cavitating and I get some air in the pressure check port.

Im also reading about lots of guys ditching the oil injection system but haven’t seen why they are. Is it just peace of mind or are these systems junk? Any help is appreciated. I can fix anything but I need to learn about it first. Plus I don’t want to pay the 110$ an hour for someone to look at it.

if ya don't know tha "complete" history on tha motor, more so if it's ever been over heated even justa little, best ta delete tha oiler and pre-mix..heat is tha big killer of tha oiler.. send me an email address and i'll send ya an oem manual that will cover your motor.............

I know nothing about it. The boat was on an auction and they said it ran and worked...yeah right. What all is involved in a delete?

I have yet to do a compression test. Haven’t had a lot of time to work on it.
