I have always had Mercury or Mariner motor on my pontoon. All the controls and electronics are in my console(pontoon). This season I changed motors over to a Johnson (120hp) with a side control mount with side mount ignition. Everything is great with my new motor but I have one problem. Now that I have the new side mount, I do not have any power set up for my console which controls my radio, fuel gauge. I have the wire harness still (not currently) but I was wondering can I hook the red and black wires from the old harness directly to my battery to run these two components? I know the following about the attached pictures, two Brown(temp warning) RED (protected and unprotected from battery) GREY (tachometer) YELLOW (choke and starter soleniod) BLACK (grounds) PURPLE (ignition) GREEN and BLUE are for my (tilt/trim). I am wanting to mainly know.....Can I take the RED and BLACK wires all the way back to my batteries and tie in directly. By doing this I am hoping to get power to my electronics (fuel gauge) and Radio. Any suggestions would be helpful on how to handle. This wiring will not be used for anything other than power to panel. My motor is set up on a side control with ignition it.

Re: Mercury Wiring Schematics - Wiring Help

So you intend to have the fuel gauge on all the time????? That's what would happen. Wiring to power the console is identical to what the Merc/Mariner had. If your ignition switch starts the engine, you have power at the console. Power comes to the switch on the "B" (battery) terminal on the switch. Power for the accessories comes from the "A" (accessory) terminal on the switch. All accessories will then be powered with the key is in the RUN position. There is no need to run another pair of wires all the way back to the battery as they are already at the helm. What you do need is a separate pair of red and black wires from the battery to power the fuse panel. Those should also be there already unless this is a very old pontoon.
