Well lets see if this makes any sense.When I put my lower unit back on,I line up the driveshaft with the mid section hole.Then push the lower unit up until the waterpump guide tube is just touching the water tube.I then put my hand/finger on the guide tube to where it meets the water tube and meet them up properly and push up done.I really hate to say this but after a couple of times you will get the hang of it.Be careful and take your time I have messed up a couple guide tubes by not getting them lined up properly.
