I installed the mobile vessel view on my mercury 115 and see that it has gph and how many gallons have been used. I was wondering for the gallons used does my phone need to be paired all the time while the motor is running? I hate to keep it paired as it does drain the phone battery

I got this info from the web site...

Where is My Data Saved?

Data is copied from your device to the cloud under these

particular circumstances:

• The device location and device ID are saved for usage purposes when

the app is opened or closed. No other data will transfer.

• Engine connection and Bluetooth disconnection supply the data and

information needed to populate the websites. This data is engine and

vessel specific.

• Preferred dealers are selected through VesselViewMobile.com. Every

account is allowed up to five preferred dealers. Dealers will have

access to your engine data such as: engine hours, fuel remaining,

faults, and maintenance logs when these are added to the cloud

I had never heard of this product before reading this post but I am an IT guy. The device uses your phone for the GPS and storage of the data. It copies the data up to the cloud. Im thinking that yes your phone has to be paired. When I use my phone for the GPS I connect it to a USB port or a power outlet (with USB plug) hope this helps

Hi

it stores the data on the module. It now also lets you see what you have left on the boat even when disconnected and away from the boat. After the last update.
What I do is generally have it connected and just lock the phone so the screen isn’t on. It works away in the background and uses next to no battery then. You don’t need the screen on all the time.
Great wee thing. Had it since it was launched.

QBhoy , keep in mind you know way more about this product than I so i'm really just asking... The unit does not store any data but feeds it or transmits it to the phone. The phone process it and put it on your phone and with the help of the GPS and likely google maps give the user all sorts of useful information. It transmits it to the cloud and from there you can access from any device but you need the cell phone connection to get the data from the unit to the phone and if the phone is not connected the data is lost? Like I said i'm relay just asking and not telling, lol.

Looks like it would be a fun product, too bad its only for outboard motors.

I don't think it is just for outboards, it also works for mercruiser's too

Hi roffey.
I’m far from a technology expert to be fair...I struggle to change the channel on the tv sometimes. So I’d normally take your word for this....but I do know that I can connect to my friends boat and module from my phone. It will then tell me not only love details from his engine, but fuel status and level too. He doesn’t have a log in account so won’t be transmitting data to a cloud, I’d imagine ? That’s what makes me think some data is stored on the module ?? Who knows.

What I think is... this module transmits data to a cell phone. Your phone or a phone takes that data and the app assembles it as, RPM's, GPS, MPH or what ever information your looking for or asking for. It sends it to the cloud and stores it so you can downloaded to your device of choice but I think it needs a phone to store the data or at least retrieve the data from the unit installed on the motor. I don't think it will store the data.

Like I said this is guess work on my part and likely I'm wrong, lol. I've been in the business for 40 years and have been wrong more than right, hey I worked for Nortel, bahaha. I do think this requires more looking into and I am looking into installing it on my boat, love stuff like this, thanks for the post.
