Howdy Hiejkant.

Both are good engines.

I understand that the Merc is computer controlled and fuel injected. I believe that the Suzi is carbed.

That would cause me to select the Merc.
:)

They are both great engines, I have worked around both of them and I would choose
Merc simply because its mostly American made and parts availability......If I could not have Mec I would own a 'Zuki before any other outboard as a second choice :D

Re: mercury versus suzuki?

Picked up my Merc 02 30hp ELPT last night. First impressions are very favorable. I traded a 00 Merc 30 ELPTO for it. Little less power but the starting, idling and quietness more than make up for any loss. I was a tiny bit hesitant because this is the first year for EFI but really wanted a four stroke and the Merc dealer is just down the street. I have not heard of any problems with this model yet. Probably can't miss with either.
Regards
Jim
