I have a 1975 Mercury 850. Does anyone know of a good place to get a tach for this engine?

Most any standard outboard tach will work. i think your motor was setup to drive a tach from the ignition wire. You can also use the "ALT" type tach if you move your brown wire from the box to one of the yellow/red stator wires.
