Ive got a 1996 mercury 40 hp 4 cylinder seriel number OG343273 that I have a stator question. The battery is not charging, and the tach is screwy. I replace rectifier/regulator and it charged for a while, but now its not charging again. I suspect rect/reg is blown again, so I think the stator may be bad. The stator tests bad as it has .2 amps resistance accross the 2 yellow wire and the manual calls for .5 to 1.0 amps. Am I doing this test correctly? Does anyone have a used stator that they would like to sell for this motor? Its the same as the 45 and 50 horse 4 cylinders and some 3 cylinders.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Van

Re: mercury stator question

I thought you should check the stator with a ohm meter? Not sure but that is what my manual is saying. Try the library in your area. Free reading their manuals.

Re: mercury stator question

I have checked the stator with an ohm meter, thats where the .2 number came from. Just wondering if it is indeed bad and if anyoe has a used one for sale.
