Mercury starting trouble

I have a Mercury 140 HP 1972, all new parts put in the control box, cant get it started...It will run though if you hold the key in the start position, but the starter stays engaged that way...Was wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix this, or if I can bypass the problem and hook up a toggle switch? Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Thanks for the link, I have the box wired up just like that, and still having the problem. In order to keep it running, I have to hold the key over in the start position, but then the starter runs all the time, and I don't want to burn it out...Any suggestions? on how to fix this problem? Thanks-stinger

If all is wired properly, I suspect the ignition switch is not any good.
