I just bought a Sugar Sand Tango jetboat this spring. The boat ran great for about 3 months (maybe 20 hrs). One day the lights were left on and battery was dead. Battery was 4 years old so I replaced with a new one.
After new battery was installed, the boat had major problems starting. Seemed like it was flooded because it took a couple days of sitting and it would start... only the RPMs were low throughout the range (idle was about 500rpm instead of 1000rpm and full throttle was about 3500 instead of 5500).
A couple days later got boat started again and rpms were now correct. Boat ran great throughout throttle range for about 20 minutes, then boat died just like kill switch was pulled wile idling.
I've read a lot of threads about stator problems with this engine. I downloaded service manual and checked stator Ohms. Red/White to Blue/White checks out at 3800 Ohms each time was checked. Red to Blue has been all over the board when checked three different times. Once was 3200, the next time checked (after cranking for a few seconds) was OPEN, the next time checked (again after cranking for a few seconds) was about 1780 Ohms. Correct reading for both sets is supposed to be 3500-4200 Ohms.
Does this sound like a for sure stator problem? I can't see any reason for the Ohms to jump around like this unless something is wrong with stator.
Any help is appreciated.
