Mercury Sport-Jet 175, Oil Warning Buzzer

I am getting an "OIL SYSTEM" warning buzzer and the oil tank is full. It appears that the oil is getting to the gas, from the white smoke in the exhaust. Is their a way to check the Oil Injection Pump? I think that it may be a defective sensor. Is their an easy way to check the sensors?

There was a recall on sport jets. Seems the oil pump is driven by a plastic gear and some of these may have failed.

The recall is not for this serial no. I need to find out how to check the pump and/or sensors.

This may well be a false alarm ,but it may well also be an actual failure.Add oil to your fuel tank ,or patch in a remote tank ,then begin troubleshooting.First disconnect blue wire from float switch on engine res.,start engine ,no horn ,float switch.Horn then disconnect blue white wire from motion sensor and restart.After this things get sticky.

You sound like you know your stuff. I have another question. While working on this problem, I found that the link from the throttle to the oil pump was installed incorectly (by my mechanic). It was 90 deg. out, and rotating the "valve" the wrong direction (ccw). Is it possible that this could have caused a pump failure?

Not likely.This is a shaft driven pump and that rod is only a metering control. When reversed will cause over oiling.Did you experience this?

Im not sure of over oiling. What are the symptoms?
