Mercury Sport Jet 120XR Misfiring

I have a 1996 Sea Rayder F14 with a Mercury Sport Jet 120XR that is misfiring intermittently. The motor starts, idles and generally runs good. However, it occassionally misfires in the mid-rpms just before getting on plane and right up until almost full throttle. So far it hasn't been a real problem, but it does misfire about 2-3 times per minute at these speeds. Any ideas?

The engine has brand new plugs. I do not know if the stator has ever been changed.
