I recently bought a 1989 basstracker 17' pro. It has a speedometer, but it doesn't work. I know the vaccum tube goes to the motor, but can't find any info on it. My mercury motor has a little hole on the lower unit that detects the speed, so I'm told. I don't have any manuals that came with the boat, so I can't Confirm this to be true. I don't want to hook up a pitot tube on the transom or rely on a g.p.s. unit to tell me how fast I'm going, I just want my original speedo to work as it did when it was new. Thanks, clayton

Re: mercury speedometer hookup???

The speedometer tubing should hook onto the tube that comes from the LU with a connector.
The speedometer uses air pressure to operate the needle.

I don't have a picture but there should be a hole in the leading edge of the LU and a plastic tube coming out of the top. If the tube is missing you might have to drop the LU to replace it.

Re: mercury speedometer hookup???

i found it. looks to be cut.....can i route the wire up the shift linkage tube? or do i have to run it on the outside of the motor? and on a side note...my motor was originaly eqiped with a auto blend oil injection system. it seems to be gone but the original bracket is in the back where the gas tank is, and the guy i bought it from converted the fuel line and conections to fit the tank. should i get another injection system? or are they unessecary? thanks, clayton
