Has anyone purchased Smartcraft gauges with a 4-Stroke EFI motor?
For 2002 Mercury claim the 4-Stroke EFI motors are Smartcraft ready. I have been informed this is only partially true as the 30 to 60 hp motors have a limited amount of functions enabled.
For the two system gauges (Speed/Tach) plus 4 link gauges, Mercury wants $2000.00 Canadian.
Are they really worth the money?

I know these instruments are made for Mercury by Gaffrig but that's twice the price of Yamaha smart gauges

Those engines are able to send the Smartcraft monitor only so much info. That goe's for your engine and the big boys.If you want the added perks like water temp, speedo ,etc, you have to cough it up.

Re: Mercury Smartcraft Instruments

The long and short of it is that the 4-stroke efi engines do not come rigged with the digital sending units required to operate smartcraft that the Optimax and mercruiser MPI motors do. Also there is no provision in the engine wiring harness to add these sensors. Therefore the data that the Smartcraft system monitor can display is limited to whatever info the engine control module has. That amounts to RPM, fuel flow rate, running time, overheat alarm, and low oil pressure alarm. No additional dat acan be added say boat speed or trim angle since the wiring harness will not accept the necessary transducer. Given this state of affairs the smartcraft gauges are pretty useless on the 4-stroke efi engines.
