I am in the market now for a new boat, possibly a nitro or triton. Buying new i would be getting a mercury 90 or 115 ELPTO 2 stroke. buying used, i am not sure but most likely a Merc outboard.

My quesiton is, what do i need to know. What years and HP should i stay away from? Can anyone provide a little insight to merc outboards?

I may have the chance to swap it out (new for a Yamaha) but at an increased cost. Please help!

You are making the decision a lot more complicated than it is, Hunter.

I am not a Merc fan but that has nothing to do with the quality of the engines. They are all good engines, I just object to Brunswick's marketing tactics.

For what it may be worth I do think that the Yammies are better engines and worth a bit more, but I can't prove it so it's probably just a bias.

I don't think there are any bad engines on the market, so I would go for the brand serviced by the closest and best dealership.
