Since it seems that most of the threads here are about engine "troubles". I thought I would start one about engine "trouble free" trips out on the water. There has been some frustrations along the way, and I thought I killed it once, but it has been a solid runner so far. So this is a reminder that these old motors are not all "troubles" and why we run them.

I am always looking for newer parts to continue its restoration because it's all part of boating!

This video was quite the surprise as I thought I recognized the canal and then you showed the sign.Small world.
Used to fish the Talbot.Buddies inlaws own a cottage in the little bay beside the swing bridge.
No good pictures of my 73 1500,but I've been using it for a couple of years up at the Georgian Bay end of the Trent system.

I,m with ya on that one. Nothing quite like the sweet sound of a good running Merc inline.
They have the look too.

I have had a lot of fun this summer with my old classic tri-hull ....1969 Chrysler Valiant ...pushed by a 50 hp...1982 Merc. Even with 4 passengers it can pull me ( 240) pds at a good clip on a tube. With 3 adults aboard ( no tuber )I can get 33 mph on the gps. I`m very pleased with the fuel mileage as well .!!!!!
here is a video and some pics of it............. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqFGW2uQtLo

That 1250 is in fantastic shape is it a restoration or an unused find?
Here's a link to a web page I posted; click on the arrows in the circle to see my Merc history

Re: Mercury Outboards on the Water...Post your Pictures

Here is a short video of my 72 1150. The tach was showing about 5400 rpms on this run. The engine seemed happy running at 5600-5800 revs though. I was underpropped at this elevation and she had even more left. After watching some other videos it sounds like people are running these engines well over 6K RPMs. Where is it safe to run these old engines. I am currently running a 15p prop and 50:1 Fuel/Oil.
